Africans are Planting a 6,000 Mile Wall of Trees Across the Entire Width of the Continent

One of Africa’s most ambitious projects is well underway. The Great Green Wall is a massive project to plant drought resistant trees at the Southern edge of the Sahara Desert known as the Sahel. The project brings together 20 countries under the auspices of the African Union. According to the Great Green Wall’s website, “once complete it will be the largest living structure on the planet. 3 times the size of the Great Barrier Reef”.
