Africans are Planting a 6,000 Mile Wall of Trees Across the Entire Width of the Continent

One of Africa’s most ambitious projects is well underway. The Great Green Wall is a massive undertaking to plant drought resistant trees at the Southern edge of the Sahara Desert known as the Sahel. The project brings together 20 countries under the auspices of the African Union. According to the Great Green Wall’s website, “Once complete it will be the largest living structure on the planet. Three times the size of the Great Barrier Reef.” The big goal here is to fight back against climate change in an area that is at the forefront of it. Already, big changes are happening and life is coming back to the area. To learn more and to see mesmerizing vistas and videos, check out www.greatgreenwall.org.
